ACT V!
Your negotiation team is at the end of ACT IV, “of negotiations, as described in last months newsletter”, and it has been our intent to bring the best proposal we could to the membership. Copies of the changes to the contract and the agreements reached will be distributed to the membership via your E-Board representative on the afternoon of October 10, 2005. If your work group does not receive copies please contact President Isaac at 253-640-9111 or VP Lane at 253-297-9110. Some of the negotiation team has scheduled themselves to be in the Operators lobby and the Maintenance lunch room on October 11th and 13th, 2005.
MEETINGS!
There will also be three meetings at the IBEW Hall, 3049 S. 36th St., Tacoma, Hall “D” (same building that the monthly charter PM meeting is held). These meetings will start at 10:00AM, 1:30PM, and 6:00PM, on Wednesday, October 12th, 2005. If you arrive late we will finish the meeting and then cover anything you have questions on. Additionally the proposal will be discussed at the union meeting on the evening of October 13th, Thursday at 7:30PM.
The Friday October 14th, 2005 AM meeting is being cancelled to conduct the contract vote.
VOTING!
The voting will take place as it did last time at Pierce Transit. Look for the tent near the gate to the bus lot (or Motor Home). The polls are scheduled to be open from 6:00AM to 6:00PM Friday, October 14, 2005. Please have employee ID available if asked. Thank you.
It has been our intent to bring a tentative agreement or proposal to you the membership, which you could support and give your approval.
WHAT HAPPENS IF?
What happens if the tentative agreement is “not” ratified (found to be unacceptable) by the membership, we will go back into negotiations until such time as we reach an acceptable proposal or agreement that is ratified and acceptable. If an acceptable proposal cannot be agreed on the negotiations move on to ACT V, Scene I, and II if necessary.
ACT V, Scene I– is the phase which occurs if no contract settlement is reached and both parties reach impasse.
Scene I- If an impasse occurs the next step is “mediation”, and if an agreement cannot be reached you then proceed to ACT V, Scene II.
Scene II-In the state of Washington we have “binding arbitration”. In this process an Arbitrator works between the two parties, listening to the arguments of both sides (to include supporting documentation etc.) and makes a decision regarding the issues that both sides have to live with. The Arbitrator’s decision is final and binding. Sometimes this can be a costly process, affecting economic and non-economic items.
