CONTRACT UPDATES Rules and procedures for carrying out the additional benefit (D).Vacation Carry-over
in Article XVII - Vacation Leave.
It has been agreed that the rules and procedures, were acceptable to both Management and the Union. It was also agreed that some modification to these rules and procedures might be necessary at a later date.
The necessity of future modifications to these rules and procedures are to be determined only after and dependent upon,
the success of the completed October 2003 Vacation Pick-up signing process.
Vacation Carry-over Rules and Procedures for Full-time Transit Operators
-A week of vacation leave, made up of five accrued vacation days, that must be signed and may not be used in daily
or hourly increments. A regular vacation week must be taken during the current calendar year and may not
be carried over into the following year or sold back to the agency.
Wild Vacation Week
-A week of vacation leave, made up of five accrued vacation days, that must be signed and may be requested to be used in daily
or hourly increments. A wild vacation week must be taken during the current calendar year and may not be carried over into the
following year or sold back to the agency.
Wild Day
-One day of a wild vacation week.
Odd Accrued Vacation Day
-Any vacation leave day accrued in the previous calendar year that was not originally part of a regular or wild vacation week.
These days are identified based on the operator's annual accrual rate and do not apply to any extra days resulting from an operator's use of vacation time.
Sell Back
-An operator's means of receiving cash in exhcnage for odd accrued vacation days.
Carryover
-An operator's means of postponing the use of odd accrued vacation days (due to be taken in the current calendar year) for use during the
following calendar year.
Notification Time
-The time that an operator is scheduled to conduct their vacation pick-up signing.
This is the time, during the last quarter of the year, at which you must sign for Vacation Pick-up balance.
Vacation Pick-up
-The process of assuring that transit operators use, or otherwise account for, all of their available vacation leave (including personal holidays).
SUMMARY:
A full-time transit operator may elect to sell back or carry over (or any combination thereof) up to 4 days of the operator's
odd accrued vacation days into the following year. (NOTE: This article section does not apply to relief transit operators.)
RULES:
1) Any full-time transit operator electing to sell back their odd accrued vacation days must:
a) Notify their assistant manager by completing a vacation carryover/sell back form, (signed and dated), and submitting
it at the operator's scheduled vacation pick-up signing time.
b) Agree to not modify their intention/request.
c) Indicate the number of days they want to sell back.
2) Any full-time transit operator electing to carry over their odd accrued vacation days must:
a) Notify their assistant manager by completing a vacation carryover/sell back form, (signed and dated), and submitting
it at the operator's scheduled vacation pick-up signing time.
b) Indicate the number of days they want to carry over.
c) Once the vacation carry over/sell back form has been submitted, carryover requests may only be modified if the new
requested vacation period is available. This modification request must be made in writing and submitted to the transit operator's
assistant manager for approval.
3) Wild days may not be converted to odd accrued vacation days.
4) An operator may have a maximum of one wild week per calendar year.
5) All vacation weeks, regular and wild, must be signed.
6) Odd accrued vacation days carried over into the following year will become part of a vacation week or will become wild days that must
be used during the following calendar year and will not be carried over again or sold back to the agency.
